🇩🇪 A Trip to Berlin 🇩🇪

A tradition in the last year high School here in Denmark is to go on a studying trip to another country. So since I'm in my last year of high school I went on such a trip with my class. As you probably guessed by now, the jaunt went to Berlin in Germany.
The journey spanned over five days where we took off from the city Esbjerg where I live on a early Sunday morning with train towards destination. We arrived nearly on time seven hours later at Berliner Hauptbahnhof where we took the Metro to the station near our Hotel. We lived in close proximity the
gedächtniskirche on Kurfurstendamm were there last year around was a terrorist attack on a Christmas marked.

Kurfurstendamm is one of the most visited places in Berlin since it has a very high concentration of your familiar well known large shopping chains. If you however are searching for something a bit more experimental and the shops that follow the current fasiontrends precisely I would recommend the area around Alexanderplatz which is the old centrum of the DDR .
At Alexanderplatz there is a also a large U-bahn station which we took to a area called Kreuzberg one of the days in our break. This part of the city is nearly a municipality due to its high concentration of Turks which have give the area the name of "mini Istanbul". This Turkish community has played a large role in the development of the area since it due to this minority it has moved partially away from the typical German bourgeois way of thought. This has made Kreuzberg into an epicenter of Art, music and fashion. Definitely worth the visit.

Another thing I would definitely recommend is a bar we visited one of the afternoons. The bar is called "Ä" and is located in Neukölln which might seem a bit aways but the the small trip of 20 minutes in the underground 100% worth it. The bar is incredibly cosy by only being lit by candlelight and it has this gritty feel (but in a nice way), the beers and liquor were dirt cheap and the place itself had an incredible vibe to it. One of Berlins many hidden pearls.

On the trip we also visited some predetermined placed decided by our teachers. This were places such Olympiastation, East side gallery and all the other usual tourist traps in Berlin. One of the more exciting things that we saw were the particle accelerator DESY in one of the suburbs of Berlin. Here we heard some presentations about their operations but never got to see the acceleration it self which was a bit of a let down but getting an insight in how these accelerators were very interesting.
Anyhow we had a blast on our trip to Berlin with all its culture and history, eating loads of Döners and drinking cheap German beer.
