Snakespeare

Recently we have completed a topic focusing on William Shakespeares works and the contemporary time around him. Here we focused on what made shakespeare so special at his time and why he stood out from his peers. We learned that it was his incredible ability to compose and structure his stories and his lyrical genius of his poetry that left its imprint history. But... I found that Shakespeare was quite hard to assimilate. I do not doubt the genius of shakespeare but i felt as if there was quite the language barriere between the english and this "ancient" english that shakespeare was accustomed to. This barrier made it hard to understand what Shakespeare is trying to convey in his works. He also uses a lot of metafores and and smilies which does not make it any easier. I think it can be summed up as english on hard mode. But when you finally decipher what it is that he is trying to convey you feel some sort of that you have made some sort of accomplishment. During this t...

The Topic of American Modernismen

At the end of the year 2017, we in our English class, looked into the genre of modernismen. Modernismen has its origins in the very end and early start of the 19th and 20th centuries, where it at the time was unlike any other literary period seen before, and it changed literature forever. In modernised there is focus on how the there is no concrete truth and that desires rule. We read some text from Ernest Hemingway, who is a key figure in american modernismen which we mainly focused on. Some of these text were " Hills Like White Elephants " and " Cat in the Rain ". A writing style that prevailed under modernismen were the "iceberg principle" where not much is shown but much is told, what is also something that these stories are prime examples of.  I found that the short stories that followed this "Iceberg Principle" to be very interesting. The fact that only the minimal is show, that we as reader must piece the story together from the scarc...

Reflection on the final themes of the year

For the last two themes of the third year of high school, we have read, analysed and discussed the topics of colonialism and post- modernism.  I found that the most intriguing thing, about the first topic of the two we read, which was colonialism, to be how writers at the time criticised the authority concealed right under the surface of the story. If you delved just at bit into the story it was easy to stop what the writers real intention was (e.g The Park) which often was to show the inequality that went on at the society that the writers lived in. The stories we read were not as dated as I had initially thought they would be and most of the ones we read still hed up great as fictional litteratur(gentlemen of the jungle) even if the subject matter of the text aren’t of as much relevancy as they used to. I think that relevancy of these texts and stories now lay in learning about the past and how they portrayed the atrocities that went on. Over all I ...
